Malvern East

Even though this courtyard is small in size it needed to be carefully designed and engineered.

The central existing tree, an Acer negundo, determined the entire landscape development. The tree provided invaluable screening and shade and needed to be the focus of the project.

Rendered walls and Indian sandstone pavers give the courtyard clean lines. The walls are capped with a bullnose paver so as to double as seating. In small courtyards multiple uses are a necessity.

Footings for both the walls and paving area were carefully designed around the existing tree roots.

Cupresses species were used as the choice for screening plants because of the ongoing possum problem and their dislike of chewing conifers.
